Josef Originals Birthday Dolls were first created in the mid 1940's by Muriel Joseph George during the end of World War ll. Her first designs were produced between 1945 and 1962 in California. She then moved the manufacture of the dolls to Japan for economic reasons.
Muriel retired in 1982 and sold the company to her partner George Good. Production continued between 1982 and 1985. The company was then sold to Southland Corporation (Applause). The company changed ownership again in 2004 to Dakin who began to manufacture the dolls in Hong Kong. These dolls continue to be produced today from China, by Dakin who creates these figures with utmost attention to authenticity, including the detailed ceramic construction and 24K gold paint for character accents. The original line was hundreds of items including: birthstone girls, birthday girls, animals, music boxes and much more. Recently the production centered on the birthday dolls, birthstone dolls, and some special occasion dolls such as first communion, confirmation, sweet 16, bride and groom. Today's production centers on birthday dolls from newborn to twenty one, bride/ groom, ring bearer and flower girl. We hope to see more of these beautiful dolls in the near future.
